FSCA warns the public against a fraudulent e-mail

Pretoria - The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) has issued a warning to the public against a fraudulent and malicious entity or individual(s) impersonating the regulator.

The FSCA said the individual(s) or entity in question are believed to be using the email address: fscaunclaimedfunds@gmail.com, and are targeting unsuspecting members of the public by sending them emails stating that there is an unclaimed benefit due to them and that they should respond otherwise the funds will be forfeited to the state.

The regulator explained that it does not have any affiliation with the individual(s) or entity and the email address and will not contact individuals about unclaimed benefits if the individuals have not lodged an unclaimed benefit query with the FSCA.

Members of the public are urged to be cautiously vigilant and to report any suspicious
communication purporting to come from the FSCA, it said, adding that
members of the public should always ensure that an entity or individual is suitably authorised by the FSCA to provide the specific financial product or service being offered.

One can easily conduct an online search for a financial institution that is an authorised FSP in terms of the FAIS Act through the following link: https://www.fsca.co.za/Fais/Search_FSP.htm
