Mokaedi qualified with a B Com degree in Economics and Business Economics (Insurance & Risk Management) from Wits University, and subsequently completed a B Com Honours degree, specialising in Marketing in 1995 at the same institution. He further went on to complete an MBA with the University of West London in 2000.
He started his career as a Trainee Sales Manager at British American Tobacco in 1992. In 1996 he joined BP Southern Africa as Business Development Co-ordinator and went on to occupy positions as Category Manager, Product Development Manager - Marketing Technology, and Merchandise Operations Manager. In 2001 he moved to the Old Mutual Group where he occupied a number of senior positions, largely in the Strategy and Marketing areas. He was further appointed to executive positions as General Manager for Strategy & Marketing (Mutual & Federal), General Manager for Alternative Distribution, and Chief Marketing Officer for Old Mutual in 2013.
He joined Santam as Chief Marketing Officer for the Group in 2016 and serves on a number of subsidiary boards – MiWay Group Holdings, Santam Structured Insurance, and Vulindlela Underwriting Managers.
Overall, Mokaedi has had an exciting career spanning over 29 years, with 20 years in the financial services industry. He has been privileged to spend the past 14 years holding executive positions at some of South Africa’s top listed companies.
Mokaedi says: “I love my family and love my work. These two things give me the energy to wake up every morning, yearning to make a difference in the world. In my spare time I enjoy the freedom of running, and an occasional walk in a park – whose pleasure is often interrupted by some unrefined attempt at golf. One day I will figure it out!”.
