Munich Re appoints new cyber heads for markets in Asia-Pacific and Africa
Munich - Munich Re’s Cyber business in Asia-Pacific and Africa will be led by a newly appointed management team. Marco Petrovic will be heading Cyber Asia (excl. Greater China). Johanna Roman will lead the business in Australasia, Greater China and Africa.
Head of Cyber Asia (excl. Greater China): Marco Petrovic
Since joining Munich Re in 2005, Marco Petrovic has held a range of roles across Casualty and Cyber Underwriting, including Business Development. Most recently, he led Munich Re’s Cyber business across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa from Munich. In August, he will relocate back to Asia, bringing extensive regional experience to further advance Munich Re’s Cyber ambitions across a strategically important, high-potential region and to advise clients on Cyber throughout their digital transformation journeys. Based in Singapore, he will report to Haruka Narahashi, Head of Treaty Underwriting, Korea & Japan, Cyber Asia (excl. Greater China).
Marco Petrovic: “While mature markets benefit from broader claims experience and greater transparency, limited loss data in less mature markets should not be mistaken for lower malicious or non-malicious exposure. These markets require even stronger underwriting discipline and careful risk selection. Narrowing the Cyber protection gap sustainably - which remains highest globally in Asia - will depend on combining technical rigor with insurance solutions that reflect how Cyber risks are evolving.”
Head of Cyber Australasia, Greater China, Africa: Johanna Roman
Johanna Roman will be responsible for Munich Re’s Cyber business in Australasia, Greater China and Africa with effect from 1 July 2026. Johanna is based in Sydney and reports to Kitty Ho, Head of Underwriting, Australasia. Johanna Roman brings over 20 years’ experience in the reinsurance market with roles spanning across reinsurance purchasing, claims and underwriting prior to joining Munich Re in 2022 as Casualty & Cyber Underwriting Manager, Australasia.
Johanna Roman: “Cyber insurance is ready to grow, but closing the protection gap requires industry experts to align on risk insights, modelling and disciplined capacity. By leveraging strong underwriting expertise, threat intelligence, claims data analytics and advanced accumulation modelling, our team is committed to transforming evolving cyber threats and exposures into effective insurance solutions that meet the changing needs of clients across the Asia‑Pacific market."
