Swiss Re appoints Beat Strebel as CEO Reinsurance China and China Country President
Zurich - Following last week's announcement of the appointment of Ivan Gonzalez as CEO Corporate Solutions and member of the Group Executive Committee, Swiss Re announced the appointment of Beat Strebel as CEO Reinsurance China and China Country President, to succeed Ivan Gonzalez.
Beat Strebel (pictured) will assume the position as of 1 July 2024, subject to regulatory approvals. He will have composite responsibilities for all Reinsurance operations in the China market including both Life & Health (L&H) and Property & Casualty (P&C) businesses. He will relocate to Beijing in the summer.
Beat Strebel is currently Head Reinsurance Middle East & Africa at Swiss Re. Instead of replacing his current role (with combined L&H and P&C responsibility), Swiss Re will take the opportunity to further simplify its organisation.
Nikhil da Victoria Lobo, currently Head P&C Reinsurance for Western & Southern Europe, will assume additional leadership for Swiss Re's P&C Reinsurance business in the Middle East & Africa market. In addition to his current role as Head L&H Re UK & Ireland, Tamas Bown will take over responsibility for the L&H Reinsurance business in Middle East & Africa.
Strebel is currently Head Reinsurance Middle East & Africa at Swiss Re. Over the last 15 years, he has held a number of leadership roles in Europe and in the Americas covering both L&H and P&C businesses.
He joined Swiss Re in 1994 as an Account Manager and worked across Europe including Switzerland and Spain, and in 1998, he became Head of Swiss Re Venezuela and soon after took the position of Head of Swiss Re Argentina, which he held until 2002, when he was appointed Head of Global Clients Latin America.
From 2003 to 2005, he was Head of Sales and Marketing Latin America, P&C. In 2006, he became Head of Latin America, overseeing both the P&C and L&H businesses. He was Managing Director of Clients Markets for Austria, Central and Eastern Europe from 2009 to 2013, then served as Head of P&C Facultative business in EMEA from 2013 to 2019.
Strebel holds a degree from University of St. Gallen in Business Administration (lic. oec. HSG). He also holds an Executive MBA from the IAE Business School, Universidad Austral, Argentina.
