SAIA establishes vehicle damage quantification
The association said two meetings had already taken place in early May 2012 where the Vehicle Damage Qualification Body was formally constituted and a new Steering Committee selected that will take the process to establish a qualification for Motor Assessor and Estimators forward engaging with Merseta, Inseta and the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA). The steering committee will also liaise with other relevant stakeholders such as the Retail Motor Industries Organisation (RMI), South African Motor Body Repairers Association (SAMBRA), SAARSA and RAAF.
The Steering Committee, within which the SAIA is fully represented, met on 11 July 2012 and where it decided to rename the committee to Executive Committee. The committee discussed the registration as a legal entity, the structure, vision and mission, objectives and code of conduct, and decided to appoint a Business Consultant on a pro-bono basis who will be mandated to research and advise on the how the body should be constituted. Whether it should be a legal entity i.e. should it be a Section 21 Company or a Public Benefit Organisation, the powers of officials, voting and proxy`s, high level financial plan which must include start-up costs, monthly expenses for secretarial support including a break-even analysis.
Merseta, as the appointed Development Quality Partner (DQP) will finalise the Service Level Agreement with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and thereafter, it will schedule a profiling session with all the stakeholders with the view to develop the Occupational Profile which will be used for the development of the occupational qualification.
